This first article appeared in the AOP May 2019 newsletter. It asks the question of photographic commissioners and photography agents, the importance of a photography portfolio book and ultimately, what makes for a good photography portfolio. Here they offer their insights and advice.
These custom made ring binders contain the history and technical data of a very special car, The owner ensured that the portfolio covers matched the exterior colour of the car and the inner covers matched the interior detail.
We just love the way this photography portfolio is going to be presented in its battle scarred aluminium briefcase. An A3 clamshell box snuggly nestled into its foam enclosure, which in turn is being securely protected by its sturdy metal briefcase - What stories it must be able to tell.
Placed in our possession was a large pile consisting of vehicle documents, posters, magazines and photographs. From this we were to create order and semblance by creating an organised home for it all, with a ring binder file for the vehicles documents and history and an album for its restoration. For the posters and plans a leather scroll.
A brief from a customer, for a bespoke leather portfolio binder, to exact measurements that has been completely hand made and hand stitched and features a 3 ring 5cm binder mechanism. A secure metal zip with a debossed coat of arms in the bottom right hand corner.
Box binders can quite often be in austere colour choices, so it's just really nice when we get one that jumps out at you! It's a 3 ring binder so it's heading to the U.S. and the colours or Platinum and Calamine (not pink!)
