Artwork Requirements for Debossing, Foiling & UV Printing

If you have chosen to supply your own print ready artwork for a logo, emblem or your own type, please ensure that all artwork sent follows the guidelines below. It is vital that your artwork meets these requirements or your order may be delayed whilst we ask you to make corrections.
Don't worry, If you are not able to supply your artwork, as per the requirements below, we are able to do remedial design work for you, on everything from low resolution JPEG's up to completely redrawing a logo but there is a cost ranging from £60.00 upwards depending on the work that needs doing.

For Logo's and Designs that are going to be either Blind Debossed or Foil Embossed.

A collection of metal debossing plates for personalised binder and box covers
We are going to need to create one (or more) of these - Mag' Tooling Die plate.
Attaching a magnesium die for to a blocking machine to foil deboss a personalised binder
Which we will attach to the die to the hot plate of our embossing press.
Hartnack and Co embossing a leather cover with a hand blocking machine
And once set up, we will press the image on the die plate into the surface of your cover.

To get a good impression, it's absolutely imperative that we start with the right artwork - Here are the rules.

We need to have any artwork that you want blind debossed or foiled to be as per the list below.

differance between raster and vector image

1. Your artwork Must be a Vector Image.

In order to the cleanest and crispest quality your logo or artwork has to be a vector image. These are files with the suffix .ai or .eps
Low resolution JPEG or PNG are raster images made form pixels and unfortunately aren't acceptable unless they're high resolution (300dpi)

No grey scale images

2. It Must be 100% Black on a White background (no grey's and no shading)

A photo positive image (a photograph) is taken of your logo by the die makers. What is black remains raised, what is white is etched out. The "machine" only works in 100% black and white and hasn't a clue what to do with different shades of black.

no colour logos

3. No colour logos (As per the previous point)

For the same reason as before. The "machine" only works in 100% black and white and hasn't a clue what to do with colour.

Outlined Text

4. All type and images must be outlined

A common oversight is not having the typeface or font 'outlined'. If this is not done the type is "live' and effectively still code. If we don't have it in our system the file will not load properly.

For Logo's and Designs that are going to be either full colour UV Printed.

A 'Flat Bed' UV printer works similar to a normal desk top printer, but uses special ink that immediately cures when 'hit' but Ultra Violet (UV) light

4. If necessary, please include Pantone references.

Not necessary for all but if you have a logo or emblem that has to be a specific colour, then please ensure you have sent as a Pantone reference that our printer can check against.

If you can't do any of the above, we have a service that can help.

If your logo or artwork needs work to get it to a standard that is print ready, then we can do this for you. Our rates start from £60 depending on what work needs to be done. Upload or send us the logo and then contact us to let us know it might need work, or equally, we will let you know when we see it.
