During the renovation of Battersea Power Station, engineering company Lucas UK Group were contracted with the refurbishment of the original control rooms, which now serve as atmospheric backdrops to a residential area and cocktail bar/event facility.
The rooms still contained much of the 1930s and 1950s equipment and furnishings, and the Lucas team took great care to restore the original features, such as the switches and dials. Any controls that were broken or missing were replaced with 3D printed components, which were treated to look like the originals. They even created their own rusted steel panels to complete the look. Overall, an incredible amount of detailed effort was put into the restoration of these rooms.
Lucas wanted to thank the people involved and asked us to make bespoke presentation boxes as gifts. Inside there would be behind the scenes footage, a video presented by Sir Tony Robinson, an original seal for London Power Company and a paintbrush, which is Lucas’ signature touch.
