Portfolio Clamshell Boxes
Whether it's a print portfolio box or a presentation portfolio box, you can design a clamshell box that is completely bespoke to you.
Portfolio clamshell boxes also known as Solander Boxes and tend to come in as an A2 portfolio box or A3 portfolio box but you can get it made to fit any size of paper you wish and can be any depth required. Your box can be also be personalised.
There is a choice between a Full Clamshell Box which has two trays or a Half Clamshell Box which has one tray and a lid. The later has a magnetic closure and is actually ideal as a portfolio box. We can also fit a ring binder mechanism in either styles to produce a Ring Binder Box File.
Every portfolio box we make, starts from scratch. Nothing is off the shelf.
The order for your box begins with large piece of grey board. A custom clamshell box can have so many different variations of what is going inside it in terms of sizes, volume of work, binder or no binder tabs, page protectors or nothing at all.
Everything has to fit perfectly, it would be pointless to work any other way.
All materials are individually measured and cut out by hand.
FABRIC SWATCH
Just like a bespoke suit or any other item of clothing, materials be they fabric or leather, is measured out by ruler and cut out by hand.

And then we start to assemble your box, by hand using traditional box making techniques. We still do it this way, because it is the strongest way to do it.
We use 2mm board which we glue to together to make 4mm board. The top piece is cut 2mm smaller than the bottom piece providing a step joint that interlocks with the sides. This is the way it's always be done because when glued together it's not only strongest way of building a box it gives you a sturdy side wall.
