As the Sotheby’s catalogue entry says “Accompanying the car is a truly immense file of documentation…” enough to fill two 65mm ring binders and two 100mm deep box files as it happens. A car with this much pedigree, history and provenance is going to come with a lot of paper work.

A bit of history about the car.

There were only four Maserati 250s racing cars ever built. The first three cars had engines that were originally 2000cc that were further bored out to 2,489cc, which while causing quite a stir in Buenos Aires in January 1957 when driven by Juan Manual Fangio, weren’t considered the finished article. Chassis number 2342, the forth car built, is unique to the others, in that its engine was originally built with a displacement of 2489 cubic centimetres. It was the finished article.

Car 2432 was built and sold to the burgeoning American privateer race car market and it’s first owners could not have been more significant than Jim Hall and Caroll Shelby of Hall-Shelby Distributors in Dallas, Texas. The car was raced by both men in 1959 before eventually being sold on.

In subsequent years the car was owned by other famous privateer owner drivers and according to the cars documents raced at pretty much all the famous and greatest European race circuits.

Its beauty and as much, its rarity and history means it has always belonged in the very finest of car collections. This is the forth set of document boxes and binders that we have made for this classic car collector and we therefore consider ourselves very fortunate and honoured to do so.

The cars document box and binder.

Both the box and the ring binders were covered in Scarlet Red Firenze leather. The cars details were and foiled in Matt Silver on the cover and the spine of both the box and ring binder. For the inner cover we used Platinum buckram. Photographs of both can been found below.
