Hartnack and Company are small artisan bindery located in the beautiful Devon countryside. Our specialty is in making individual one off products custom made to our customers specifications. With a choice of fabric covered, leather covered or natural hide binders, using screw posts or ring binders, we can provide you with a menu or guest book personalised with your yachts logo foiled, embossed or full coloured printed on the cover, whether that's just one or one hundred.

  • Luxury hand made menu covers - We specialise in bespoke binders and covers where quality is the overriding criteria.
    Large choice of cover materials and colours - As well as our standard range of hard wearing and attractive buckram book cloths, we can also provide options of faux leather and other materials.
    In any size - We appreciate that menu's and wine list require different sizes and formats and as each order is hand cut and hand made, we can accommodate any size or shape.
    No minimum order - Most of our day to day work is making one-off binders and boxes for very important presentations or life events, as such we have no minimum order stipulations. 
    Bespoke to you - Just like a bespoke tailored out fit, we make just what you want. As you can see from above, you tell us want and we make it to the highest standard there is.
    How to proceed - Unlike or other products, menus and wine lists often consist of multiples or more than one, as such we prefer to quote on an individual basis. Please contact us at info@hartnackandco.com with an idea of quantities and personalisation requirements.

  • Probably for no other industry, durability is must be one of the main concerns when deciding on a cover. We offer a wide range of Buckram book cloths, which is a cloth covered in an acrylic coating making it durable and cleanable. We also offer good quality faux leathers.
    There is no extra charge for using more than one colour or material on your covers. Our full colour and fabric swatch can be viewed here, H&Co Colour Swatch.

    If you do not find what you are looking for on our swatch page, we also have access to other cover materials which can be found on our suppliers website here Winter & Company.
    We strongly urge you to request fabric samples from us if you are in any doubt of your choice.
  • A quick over view of how it works - If we are colour foiling or blind (no colour) debossing, the first thing we need to do, is get a metal (magnesium) die stamp, made of what ever is being placed on the cover (as per the picture below).

    -  The cost of this metal die is £50.00. Once this has been made, we then charge a 'stamping charge' per item/cover. The stamping amount we charge depends upon the number of covers being stamped.
    -  If for instance you want your logo in the centre of the cover, then the words MENU in the bottom right, that will be 2 dies. 

    If we want our logo foiled or blind stamped, how does it work? There are 2 options open to you regarding your personalisation. Either we can set out your wording using one of our house fonts, which can be found here.
    Alternatively, you can send us finished and ready to use artwork in the form of an .ai or .eps file. Our finished artwork specification can be found here. 

    -  Where. Your personalisation can be placed anywhere you like. 

    -  Can I have more than one? Yes, you can have as many personalisations as you like, but each will require a new die and therefore an extra charge  

    -  What are my personalisation options? There are 5 options. They are:
    -  Blind Deboss - Heavy impression with no colour.

    The other options that do not require making a metal die are:
    -  Leaving A Recessed Space - An area of any size is inset into the cover where upon you can place a card within the space.

  • What is the lead time? Between receiving full payment or a pre agreed deposit, the delivery time is roughly 1 - 2 weeks. Please note certain things can delay the start of a project or delivery, these could be not receiving the correct artwork. Not receiving order or artwork confirmations. Also, if paying a deposit, despatch will only be made after receiving the out standing balance is paid.
    How is delivery made? We use a DHL next day delivery service.
    Is there a minimum order? There is no minimum order.

    • Our most popular menu cover - So simple, but as a menu or wine list so beautiful. The leather is the key to this exceptionally tactile menu. We use our 3.5mm thick, Italian veg tanned, top grain leather, which just begs to be picked up and handled.x
      Choice of leather colours - What you see in the photos above is our medium brown colour but we also offer dark brown and black - click on the Leather tab above to see more.
      Easily personalised - The second key is that is can be personalised so easily and so effectively using a blind deboss as an effective way of making it distinctively yours.
      Easy to use - Put two pages in it, or put in two hundred pages in, it's just a matter of unscrewing the post caps, taking off the cover and changing the pages. If it needs to be larger then just change the length of the posts.

      This will be a question we will ask because it affects the actual size of the cover.  If you do want page protectors, we sell them and the link to the page can be found here. They are a glass clear, medium to heavy weight, 110 micron polypropylene premium quality cover.

        • While we would love to justify the price of these covers as mainly down to the fact that they are individually hand made, a considerable percentage is down to the cost (and the quality) of the leather. We use top grain, 3 - 4mm thick, Italian vegetable tanned, tumble finished hides - more information on our leather can be found on this page page here (but the short story is, we use the best quality thick leather available).

        • Your covers can be personalised in 2 ways. They can either be blind debossed or colour foiled.

          We can stamp your logo along with some lettering on the front cover. In order to do this we need to make a metal (magnesium) tooling die (stamp) of your logo and any lettering that goes with it.

          The format of your logo artwork must be in a vector file. This would have the last digits of the file either, .eps or .ai. More information on what we need can be found on this page here.
        • You may or may not want plastic page protectors in your covers.
          This will be a question we will ask because it affects the actual size of the cover.

        • Our process runs as follows. Your order enters the production queue the moment you check out. Within a few minutes of having placed an order, you will receive via email, an Order Confirmation sheet.
          At the bottom of this page you will find an expected despatch date. (Please make sure you reply to this email as it ensures we have understood your order correctly and will not start making your order until we have this confirmation).

        • How many pages can I place inside them? As many or as little as you like as this is determined by the length of post we supply you and these can be changed for longer or shorter ones.
          How easy is it to change the pages? Very easy. The photo's above should give you an idea, other wise a guide can be found here.
          Do you give a discount for larger quantities? Yes we do, but you would have to contact us with details of what you need. Send an email to jackie@hartnackandco.com
          How quickly can you supply us? Largely this depends on how many orders we have on books at the time of your order, how many you need and how quickly we receive your payment, your artwork and confirmations. If all of this is done within 24 hours then we can normally turn things round quickly.

        Leather Cocktail Menus

        In brown 2.5mm thick, Italian full grain veg tanned leather with the embossed logo for S/Y Nilaya.

        This beautifully textured leather is tumble finished which gives it it's natural texture. As a result no piece is the same, but each has a wonderful tactile feel and the beautiful aroma that you can only get from veg tanned leather.

        • -  Luxury Guest Book with Removable Pages.  Create a bespoke individually handmade guest book or visitors book, in a choice of different fabric colours. Include the name of your house, establishment, business or yacht on the cover and create a book that makes a statement. Pages are optional and can or can't be included.
           
            - Versatility. The Exposed Screw Post portfolio is a really versatile binder, mainly because its capacity is not constrained by having a spine cover. Different volumes of pages can be accommodated simply by swapping over the screw post lengths.

            -  Any Size or Format.  What you see in the pictures is an A4, portrait book as well as an A5 landscape book. Each has a standard 2cm spine with 25 pages, but it could be in any size from A6, A5, A4, A3 and all the U.S. sizes in between. In any format and with any spine width from 1cm to 15cm. 

          -  Bespoke To Your Requirements.  Just like a bespoke suit or dress, this item is custom made just for you. This means that the size, the outer colour, the inner colour whether it has internal pockets or not is completely up to you.

What is important however, is that you will be buying an individually hand made ring binder of the highest possible standard, all you need to do is tell us how you would like it to look.

            - How is it done? We use the artwork you send us, or that we set out. to create a metal (magnesium) stamping die (picture below) which we attach to our stamping press and then create an impression on to the cover of your portfolio.

            -  Where. Your personalisation can be placed anywhere you like. In order to do this we make a metal die of your name/logo. We can also use the same die to stamp, to make a second stamp to stamp the same thing elsewhere, i.e. On the spine (cost £20.00).

            -  Can I have more than one? Yes, you can have as many personalisations as you like, but each will require a new die and therefore an extra charge  

            -  What are my personalisation options? There are 5 options. They are:
            -  Blind Deboss - Heavy impression with no colour.

            -  Colour Block Foiled - Light impression with colour foil infill.

            -  Leaving A Recessed Space - An area of any size is inset into the cover where upon you can place a card within the space.

            -  Plaque with Name Foiled - As above, an area is inset into the cover, but we create a plaque and foil or blind deboss a name or logo.

            -              Cut Out Window With Logo Foiled - A window (of any shape) is cut into the cover and a name/logo is foiled or blind debossed within.

          • Our process runs as follows. Your order enters the production queue the moment you check out. Within a few minutes of having placed an order, you will receive via email, an Order Confirmation sheet. At the bottom of this page you will find an expected despatch date. (Please make sure you reply to this email as it ensures we have understood your order correctly and will not start making your order until we have this confirmation).

          • - Size? Is based on the size of the media being placed inside the portfolio or binder. We work on generic international and US sizes, but can make to any size. If the size of the media is not mentioned here we will either ask you to pick the closest size we feature (for pricing purposes) and then you can tell what size the media is, or will make out a special order for you.

             - Orientation? Portrait means the media sits vertically and is bound along the long edge.
            Landscape means the media sits horizontally and is bound along the short edge.

            - Binder Mechanism? The best guide we can forward you to is the one we have set out on this page here, Ring Binder Mechanisms, which explains what we have, what we can get and also capacity.

             - Protectors, Sleeves or Hinge Strips? This is important for us to know. If your page is being placed in page protectors/pockets, then we must allow for the cover to be larger height and width. Also our H&Co pockets maybe a different size to other suppliers, which is why we ask this question.
            If using file or hinge strips, your portfolio will be narrower but longer than page protectors.
