Whether we blind emboss or foil emboss, we need to create a metal tooling plate that is called a "die". These are either chemically etched (cut out) or CNC etched and we use these to press into the surface of your product to create an impression.
Things to bear in mind.
Each impression requires it's own metal tooling plate (die). Certain things like type require different levels of pressure and heat to things like logos which is why these are split out. Also each die has a cost.
Once a metal die is created however, we can use that in more than one place. Unless asked not to, we send you back the metal dies. If you need another product from us, then send us back the die and you'll save in the cost of creating a new one
As well as creating the layouts and proofs, we also need to set-up on the blocking press each die, and its placement on the cover. This is called 'set-up time'.
Examples of Personalisation.
1. Single Personalisation on JUST the cover
Placement could be anywhere you like, (top third, dead centre, bottom right hand corner etc). You'll be asked where you would like it placed.
This could also apply to just the spine.
2. Same Personalisation on both the Cover AND the Spine.
We are using the same die (metal tooling plate) for both the cover and the spine.
There is an extra "stamping charge" to cover the set-up and stamping of the additional personalisation.
3. Two different pieces of personalisation in different places on JUST the cover
The logo (above) on the red box would require a separate tooling plate (die) to the text, so therefore two dies and two set ups.
There are 2 different pieces of text on the blue binder. In terms of placement the words "Guest Book" while placed in the bottom right, might also have been placed on the spine. It is 'Two different of personalisation in different places'.
4. Two different pieces of personalisation on BOTH the Cover and Spine
Using the same two metal die plates that are on the cover, but also on the spine.
This requires just 2 dies, but 4 set up and stampings.
5. Three different pieces of personalisation in different places
3 dies and 3 different set up and stampings.
two on the cover and one on the spine.
6. Four different pieces of personalisation in different places
4 separate pieces of artwork - 2 on the cover and another 2 on the spine.
