Guide to Personalisation
Having your portfolio, binder, book, clamshell, presentation, keepsake box or whatever it is we are making for you, personalised with your choice of words or your logo embossed on the cover, is just about the essence and highlight of having a bespoke product custom made for you. We'll do as much as we can for you, either using foils, blind, or full colour printing. If there are limitations, we'll let you know.
So, what are the options? Below is an array of possibilities. There is just one thing to bear in mind. We don't actually emboss on thick board and leather (We know!) It's technically impossible as embossing is raising wording above the surface, whereas we Deboss, we press into the surface. Embossing is the catch-all expression, which is why we use it, but occasionally we'll use the word "deboss", so for the sake of clarity, we'll think of it as all the same.

What is available to you and how can it be done?

Blind Debossing
Called "Blind" Debossing because there is no colour involved.
It relies on a deep impression and then the shadows from walls of the impression of the wording or logo to create a shadow to help lift the impression.
On certain of our veg tan leathers the heat of die plate, makes the impression much darker which makes the wording or logo stand out better.
If used on buckram it doesn't suit small type or thin logos that well, and we might recommend either making the wording bigger or using foil.

Colour Foil
Using the same process as blind embossing (using a metal plate to press into the cover) this is done a using colour foil, temperature and the correct pressure, to print your name or logo into the cover. We don't press as deep as a blind deboss.
There are limitations to what can be achieved with foils depending upon the size of the logo, the material it is being foiled onto as well as the particular foil.
Logos with large solid areas and fine detail (reversed) might only work with certain colours of foil.

Full Colour Digital UV Printing
Think of a very large very high tech, flatbed inkjet printer. As soon as the ink touches the surface of the buckram, it is immediately cured using UV light.
There are a number of advantages to UV printing. Firstly, a full colour ink spectrum, where as with foil we have a very limited palette. With a Pantone reference we can achieve very close colour matches.
Very good fine detail printing, also the ability to print colour images.
It is one of our most expensive options however the cost covers as many pieces of artwork (logos, names etc) as you need on the cover.

Other personalisation options available
Other options may not be available to order on line but can be ordered by request

Name Plaque
A plaque is a really effective way of making your name or branding stand out, particularly when it is in the same accent colour as either the inner colour of your box or binder and possibly spine.
We cut out a recess in the cover, the size of which can be any size you want.
We then replace it with either fabric covered plaque of single piece of leather which we then either blind or foil emboss with your name or logo.
