Guide to Ordering
Everything we make is custom made and bespoke, so a bit like walking into tailor or dress maker, we will need to know everything from size, format, cover materials and colours and whether you'd like it personalised and then how you would like it personalised (phew!) There's a lot to know and as you will notice, there is nothing "off the shelf".
Hopefully though we have done a good job on this website, as you can order everything you need on the Product Pages. Some of things you'll need to consider prior to doing this, you'll see below.
Something to bear in mind. What are you using it for and what's going inside it?
Just in case you hadn't considered it, certain products perform certain jobs better than others. Therefore what is it you want our product to do? Do you want for presentation or is it to store something (or both)? Will it be holding a small quantity of pages or a large amount? Is it a binder you want or a box? Lastly if it's a binder, is it a ring binder or a screw post binder?
Our Binders
The simple choice is screw post binder or ring binder. If choosing the later, you can also have a binder in a box which is a box file.

Screw Post Binders
These act like a bound book. Your punched pages, or pockets slip onto the posts. These are then 'bound' tightly at the edge and the pages or media, turn like they would in a book.
Ideal for presentations and a small quantity of pages. Wide length of posts available.

Ring Binders
Available in 2 or 4 ring for 'A' sized pages or 3 ring for North American paper.
The 2 ring binders are easy to use as the media only has two rings to go over. 4 rings are better for larger quantities.
Though not as elegant as screw posts, they're best for large quantities and easily accessing pages.

Screw Post Binders - A quick guide.
For the un-initiated screw post binders can be a bit daunting or just down right confusing.
Here is a quick guide to how they work.

What ring binder mechanisms are available.
We offer a wide variety of ring binder mechanisms in either two ring four ring or three ring. The later we only offer when American sized products are selected.

Everything is made to fit exactly.
Your product is custom made and bespoke. Whatever it contains has to fit between the covers perfectly (not under, not over).
If there is a largest item, its has to fit perfectly on the inside cover, which is why you'll be asked when ordering what the contents are.

"I will be inserting pages directly into the binder"
We make the cover to perfectly fit the size of the paper that it will be accommodating.

"I will be using plastic page protector sleeves"
The cover is now made a little larger to accommodate not just the paper but the sleeve that it's going in.

"Will you be using tabbed dividers?"
The next question you will be asked is whether you'll be using tabbed dividers, in which case we will be making the cover even bigger.
Our Boxes
Just like the above, everything is made to fit the contents exactly. The size of the box on the product page refers to the contents, if you need it a little bigger or smaller than let us know. For the clamshell and drop back boxes, we always allow a a few millimetres of wriggle room between the contents and the walls of the box. Like everything else slipcases are built around the binders or books they contain.

Drop Back Box
Popular for storage and popular for presentations.
Can also be made with a forth wall (instead of three) to make a whole box.

Clamshell Box
Originally called the Solander Box to precious books in.
With it's extra walls it's strong and beautiful.

Slipcase & Multi Slipcase
A 2, 3, or 4 ring binder mechanism mounted into our drop back box file, it has all the advantages of the ring binder, with the extra advantage of having a durable box surrounding it.
Long lasting as well as extra wow and elegance of a box. We reserve the biggest binders for box files.

What colours and materials are available?
Depending on the product, you'll be asked what material you would like for the outside and or inside of your binder or box. Find the swatch page below.
Personalisation
Would you like it personalised? Is the final question you will be asked. If it is yes then you have a number of options of where and how (what type).

If it's going to be embossed, it'll need one of these.
These are what we often refer to as "dies" or "tooling dies". They are metal stamps with your name or logo etched into the surface.
We need to create one of these for each impression that we're going to make.
We can either set out what you want in one of our house fonts, or you can send us your own artwork.
The Process
To give you an idea of how things works and what to expect when ordering your Hartnack & Co product.

1. Build Your Product & Place an Order
It's very simple, go onto the relevant product page and just go through the sections. Should you get stuck, each question should have a help section.
2. You Will Receive a Confirmation Order
While you will get an automatic order receipt at the end of check out, watch out for an email from us with an order confirmation. Please check the details are correct, Also take note of the production date at the bottom of the page.

3. If it's Personalised, You Will Receive a Proof
About a week or two before we make your order, you will receive an email with a visual proof based on what you sent us. This can be altered and changed, but we can't proceed with your order untill this is confirmed.

4. Once We Receive Your Confirmations, we Start Making.
We need the confirmation order, confirmed and lastly, if you are having it personalised we need the proofs confirmed. We can't proceed until both of us are acknowledged.

5. Then We Ship
On the bottom of your confirmation email you will see a production week date. We aim to have all orders out the door by the end of this week (though sometimes this can stretch to the Monday after). We use the fastest courier service we can. For the U.K this next day, and for international it can be anywhere between 3 - 5 days.
Can I order this over the phone?
Unfortunately we can't take or process payments over the phone. Hopefully we have made it easier enough to order everything using the Product Pages, but what you can do, is email us your order and we can send you a payment link.
Is there a minimum order?
No. A lot of what we do is for single order items
I want quite a few, how do I order those?
Contact us via the email below or the contact us button. Let us know exactly what you need by going through the options of the product you would like.
We should point out that if you are after 100's, we aren't the company for you. Everything is made by hand and we don't use much in the way of automated machines. That said if you need something of our quality, we do make in the 10's, in which case if you can email us your what you need we can provide you with a quote.
What I want you don't have. Can you make something bespoke?
Of course! Make a sketch or if you have the ability, create a computer generated image and then email it over. Just remember to include approximate sizes and let us know what materials you'd like and how you want it personalised.
Can you deliver internationally?
Yes. Over half of what we make each month is delivered around the world, so in a word, yes.
What is your lead time?
Generally it is about 4 weeks for items that are personalised and less (2-3) for items that are not. If it is time critical please contact us and we can give you a more exact delivery date. That said, please save us both the embarrassment if you need something made, personalised and delivered within the same week, unfortunately we wont be able to help.
